Having Severe Itchy Skin?
Manage It By Following These Steps

Having severe itchy skin? You may be suffering from eczema. If on the other hand your doctor already identified the symptoms and he knows your itchy skin is caused by eczema, you must know by now that the more you scratch the more it itches.

But if you don't know if you are suffering from eczema check out this article about eczema symptoms. Remember this is not a replacement for your doctor's advice. You should always go to your dermatologist who can give you an accurate diagnosis.

Severe itchy skin is one of the most difficult symptoms to control for eczema sufferers because scratching is instinctive. Unfortunately in the case of eczema this is the worst mistake you can make because you can start a vicious cycle.

Believe it or not some scientists have said that eczema may be caused by the low threshold to itchiness one person has in comparison to another, and when the person scratches the rash appears and that is how it all starts. No the other way around.

Many dermatologists don't share this opinion, nevertheless there is no doubt that when a person suffers from severe itchy skin, he scratches so intensely, that it damages the epidermis. leaving it exposed to infections. Understand the eczema skin relationship.

If a person with eczema continues scratching relentlessly he can create a thick, leathery skin called Lichenification. This appears because of constant rubbing and scratching.

How To Stop Severe Itchy Skin

I am no advocate of traditional medication so what I did with my son is to apply these principles:

  • Accustom yourself to go through a basic skin care daily, twice a day. It should include cleansing, application of oils for eczema, specific natural eczema creams or emollients.
  • Maintain your skin hydrated. Carry at all times tee tree oil for eczema to apply right away when flair up instances happen. More so if you have an irritated and infected skin.
  • After identifying irritants, avoid them at all costs.
  • Avoid wetting the skin too often because it causes dryness.
  • Avoid strong changes in temperature. Avoid heat.
  • Sooth your skin with specific oils and emollients identified as a cure for eczema or that help manage it.
  • Manage your emotions and try not to stress. Help your child be calm and avoid unnecessary upsetting situations that can make him have an eczema flair attack.

These advice may seem very simple to follow but I assure you it can be a challenge when you are caring for a child with eczema. To go more in depth about each advice click on the hyperlinks and see more about my suggestions to manage your itchy skin.
