Vitamin B12 and eczema? You may ask, yes, here are my 2 cents. My mom and son suffered from eczema, so I know how hard it is to live with such skin condition.
Doctors and sufferers say that most children outgrow such condition but knowing how uncomfortable eczema is, I just could not stand on the side lines and watch my son suffer like my mother did.
When I was researching about the latest news and treatments for the natural cure of eczema I found out about the connection between vitamin B12 and eczema.
After reading many articles, publications and talking to my son's pediatrician I learnt a possible cause for eczema...vitamin B12 deficiency!
I also found out that in 2009 there was a study conducted in Germany where patients with eczema ranging from 6 months old to 18 year olds were asked to apply placebo creams on one side of the affected areas and the other side with b12 cream.
Participants used the creams for eight weeks and applied them twice a day. After eight weeks of careful monitoring, experts concluded that the b12 cream is more effective in improving the symptoms of eczema than the placebo creams.
I know the B-complex is famous for its skin healing properties but I didn't expect it to be a great relief for eczema.
Since vitamin b12 deficiency can cause eczema, I thought that taking supplements or shots could relieve the symptoms of eczema. That's where I was wrong. Supplements and shots do help in the healing of eczema but they don't not relieve it like a topical does.
How did I know this? Through trial and error. I found that using all natural creams with b12 is better than using corticosteroids for eczema in children because the corticosteroids yielded negative side effects when I used them on my child over time.
What is interesting is that B12 deficiency is not very commun in children because the retention of this vitamin is better amongst youngsters, but eczema is more commun in children than adults.
Deficiency of this vitamin is very commun in vegetarian people, and those who don't consume necessary amounts of fish, meats and dairy. It is almost like an antithesis because for many, dairy products bring eczema.
It is then up to you to know your body and to monitor your intake to act like a spy...and find if this applyies to you.
The good news was that I could buy b12 creams for eczema without a prescription, my son had a lot to gain and very little to loose. So I tried the cream with b12 to help relieve the symptoms of eczema for my child. I was very pleased with the results. I wished I had found out about it sooner.
How do I use it? I apply a generous amount of cream over the affected area twice a day and after my son's bath. It works wonders in relieving the symptoms of eczema.
I would definitely recommend it to all the moms out there whose child is also suffering from dermatitis. After reading this article you know about the connection between B12 and eczema. Also remember that every child is different and that I am only telling my experience not giving medical advice.
